mShell

Download mShell 3.07

mShell 3.07 is the final release of airbit's m Mobile Shell, the scripting environment for Symbian phones. m-shell.net is offline, so its installers, manuals and add-ons are mirrored here, unchanged.

Make SIS

Written a script? Turn it into a standalone app with its own name and icon. Make SIS packages a compiled m script as a .sis that installs on any phone of its platform, with no need to install mShell first.

Open Make SIS

1Install mShell

Pick your phone's platform and install the highlighted file: send it to the phone (over Bluetooth, for example) and open it.

2Which File Do I Need?

  1. Start with the mShell package for your platform. On S60 3rd and 5th Edition and UIQ 3 it is self-signed, with the m runtime built in. Nokia phones first need to accept apps that are not Symbian Signed: set Software installation to All (App. manager → Options → Settings on S60 3rd Edition; Settings → Application mgr. → Installation settings on S60 5th Edition), and if a certificate error remains, set Online certificate check to Off. airbit notes a few phones never allow self-signed apps.
  2. The online signable (-OS) and DevCert signable (-DC) packages unlock more of m's functions, but must be signed before they install: -OS through Symbian Signed, which is no longer online, and -DC with your own developer certificate. Install mEnvironment first, then mShell.
  3. Supervisor & Viewer (mViewer) is optional. It starts m scripts when the phone boots, takes commands by SMS, and opens m files you receive. On Symbian 9 it comes only in the signable variants, but works alongside the self-signed mShell.
  4. m runtime only (mEnvironment) is what standalone m apps run on. Apps made with Make SIS install it for you when needed.
